Radical Body-Positive Yoga Comes to South Minneapolis!

One of the best things about going through yoga teacher training has been the amazing teachers I've met along the way. One of those teachers is Ani Janzen of Radical Health Alliance and Radical Yoga for Larger People.

Last night I was lucky enough to score a spot to her vinyasa and restorative yoga classes. Held weekly on Mondays at a theater in South Minneapolis, these classes are exclusively for people in larger bodies. So, whether you identify as fat, plus-sized, chubby, husky, big or curvy, you'll be surrounded by people who look and move like you do. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, the people are warm and inviting.

Vinyasa class is at 6 PM and includes sun salutations with all the poses you might see in a regular vinyasa class. The difference? Ani provides tons of options to make each pose work for your body. Some people practiced on mats while others opted to practice their flow from a seated position. Everyone got to do what felt best in their bodies in an accepting and inclusive space. The 7 PM restorative practice slowed things down and offered longer held poses with props for support.

Check out Ani's classes, but be sure to get your tickets ahead of time. Space is limited to 12 students and her classes tend to sell out in advance. (It's pretty awesome to practice in a room of large-bodied yogis, so it's no wonder the classes sell out!)

If you're a larger bodied person who has never tried yoga, or if you've practiced yoga but never with a plus-size teacher, be sure to catch one of Ani's classes. You'll be so glad you did!
